is a land of diversity, which perhaps most evident in its languagesand cultures. As of the 1990s, people in India spoke eighteen
languages, with hundreds of dialects. Like the Middle East, India, too, is known as a cradle of religion. Two of the world's
major religions - Hinduism and Buddhism - began in India.
